Plan Westside is chronicling the creation of a Land-Use Action Plan – a design and implementation strategy to revitalize the Westside community of Atlanta that is the first major piece of work commissioned by the Westside Future Fund.
BACKGROUND: Since 2002, more than 18 land-use plans have been conceived for the Westside. The Westside Future Fund is building on the good work and extensive community feedback put into previous plans by city officials, city council members, partners and community residents to create a Land-Use Action Plan – in partnership with the City’s Department of Planning and Community Development.
METHOD: A team of local and national professionals headed up by Dhiru Thadani of Thadani Architects + Urbanists have been reviewing the previous plans to find common elements that help identify developable sites, appropriate building types, market-rate absorption and commerce needs. They’ll be coordinating a monthly series of week-long public and stakeholders’ meetings for the five targeted areas of Mims Park, AUC, Ashview Heights, English Avenue and Vine City.
MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS
Individual/group fact-finding sessions at the Westside Future Fund office
Presentation for public input in each neighborhood (locations TBA)
WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS

FRIDAYS TRANSFORM WESTSIDE SUMMIT

END RESULTS: The final deliverable is an actionable Land-Use Map with development strategies that impact the target neighborhoods of the Westside Future Fund. A primary focus of the Action Plan is supporting current residents (renters and owners) with measures to protect against displacement and identify prime areas for affordable housing and commerce.
