English Avenue’s first park is now a national award winner. The EPA chose Lindsay Street Park for its third annual Rain Catcher Award for excellence in implementation of stormwater green infrastructure. The Conservation Fund and Park Pride will receive the award that recognizes the community-oriented implementation of the park’s environmental and educational work:
- Stormwater runoff collected in a series of large raingardens.
- Through a partnership with Greening Youth Foundation’s Atlanta Youth Corps, trained and employed four young adults from the community during the construction of the new park.
- Educational opportunities for Proctor Creek Stewards and local residents through a Watershed Academy program.
- New trees, shrubs and flowers are native and help support local pollinator species, including local birds, bees and butterflies.
Winners will be presented with awards at the third annual joint International Erosion Control Association Region 1 and EPA Region 4 Municipal Wet Weather Stormwater Conference in Nashville, TN on May 17, 2016.
